Building Department
Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Building Department is to provide quality service to the community that is knowledgeable, efficient, comprehensive and helpful to the public. The intention is to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the construction, quality of materials, use of all buildings and structures within the City of Margate.
We highly recommend that if you have any questions whether or not permits are needed, on projects large or small, that you call us directly first, to avoid any complications in your project. Even small home improvement projects may require a building permit. Typically, a permit is required to demolish, construct, alter, repair or change the occupancy of a structure. Or, in other words, anything that changes the basic ‘footprint’ of the inside or outside of your property.
Faulty installations can cause fires, flood damage and other hazards, and also force you to make costly repairs when you sell your home.
