Trash Collection Rules &
Regulations
- All garbage and trash must be placed in containers with handles
and tight fitting covers.
- All household trash containers and vegetative waste must
be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the night before
colection and no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of collections.
- Empty trash containers shall be removed from the sidewalk
on the same day as collection.
- Mixing regular trash and recycling is prohibited.
Extra Rubbish & Construction Debris Regulations
Margate City residents may deliver construction debris and rubbish
to the City Yard in passenger cars, passenger vans and station
wagons on Sundays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Margate City residents delivering construction
debris and rubbish by pickup truck shall first pay a fee of $50.00
for each separate load to the City of Margate. The check shall
be payable to the City of Margate with proof of residency by drivers
license.
TIRES NOT ACCEPTED! Builders/Contractors are
not permitted to dump at all.
Carpet and Electronic Waste
Carpet and carpet padding as well as all electronic ("E") wastes such as
computers, TVs, VCRs, DVDs and game stations are recyclable and must be
transported by the property owner to the Atlantic County Intermediate
Processing Facility. The city will no longer pick up these items nor will
they be accepted at the city drop-off facility.
White Goods & Scrap Metal
Collection
The City Public Works Department provides separate pickup service
for white goods and scrap metal. Residents should call the Public
Works Department in advance at 822-5038 to arrange for Wednesday
collection.
Lawn, Leaves & Tree/Bush Clippings
Grass Clippings and Lawn & Leaf Rakings:
- Shall be separated from household trash and garbage and
placed in biodegradable paper bags.
- Are collected on the same day as regular trash via separate
pickup.
Shrubs, Branches, Tree Clippings:
- Must be securely tied in bundles no greater than 4 ft. in
length and not in excess of 50 pounds.
- These items must also be separated from household trash and
garbage and will also be collected on the same day as regular
trash via separate pickup.

The City of Margate has two (2) full time operating street sweepers.
Please remember to utilize off-street parking the night before!
MONDAY: Bayshore Drive area
TUESDAY: Coolidge Avenue to Union Avenue
WEDNESDAY: Thurlow Avenue to Jerome Avenue
THURSDAY: Jasper Avenue to Gladstone Avenue
FRIDAY: Frontenac Avenue to Fredericksburg Avenue

Recyling information and Complaints - 272-6960
Please place material to the curb by 7:00 a.m.
Paper/Corrugated Cardboard
Newspaper, magazines, junk mail, computer paper, envelopes, telephone
books, paperback books, brown grocery bags and catalogues can
be tied together with twine or placed in a brown paper grocery
bag. Corrugated cardboard should be flattened, stacked in bundles,
and tied with twine.
Glass Bottles, Aluminum, Steel, Aerosol Cans
Glass bottles and jars (all colors), aluminum, steel, aerosol.
Bottles and cans should be rinsed. Aerosol cans
must be empty and plastic lids removed.
Plastics
Milk, water, juice, soda, dish or laundry detergent bottles,
or any plastic containers with recyclable symbols. Also, clear
and
white plastic bags. Plastic bags should be crumpled up and placed
into another plastic bag. Place all glass bottles, aluminum,
steel,
aerosol and paint cans and plastic bottles together in your recycling
bucket.
Household Batteries
Place toy, watch, radio, camera, hearing aid and flashlight batteries
in a clear plastic bag and place on top of your recycling bucket.
DO NOT RECYCLE:
Food boxes (cereal, etc.); cardboard soda/beer carriers; paper
plates, cups, napkins; aluminum pie plates; mirrors/window
glass;
plastic storage containers.
